Construction chemicals distributor gains an enterprise-wide view of its business

Construction chemicals distributor gains an enterprise-wide view of its business by creating a flexible, secure environment for its accounting and distribution systems based upon an IBM eServer xSeries server running Red Hat Linux

Customer quote:
"Pronto on IBM eServer xSeries running the Linux operating system gives us a good overview of the company's operations, allowing us to minimise duplicate transactions within multiple systems across the company and the plant. We expect to see significant savings in time and money. While we are good at what we do, it's also critical to have the right technology that will allow us to be one step ahead of our competitors." --Robin Holdsworth, Chief Operating Officer, MC Bauchemie (M) Sdn Bhd

Customer background:
MC Bauchemie (M) Sdn Bhd is a construction chemicals company that is well known throughout Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia. The company is strong in both the manufacturing and marketing of cement-based products, such as plasters, skim coats, screeds, tile adhesives, admixtures, injection materials, concrete repair materials, resin flooring and waterproofing materials. MC Bauchemie was originally founded in the 1990s as Master Plaster Sdn Bhd. Seeking a partner of international repute, this Malaysian-owned company merged with the German MC-Bauchemie Muller GmbH & Co. in early 2001, forming MC Bauchemie (M) Sdn Bhd.

Business need:
MC Bauchemie's previous accounting system was a manual, stand-alone environment. This isolated approach made it extremely difficult for the company to gather its account information, and many of the organisation's accounting practices were prone to errors and excessive waits. Trying to remain one step ahead of its competitors in a limited market, MC Bauchemie needed to more accurately monitor its growth and profitability by having easy access to accurate, up-to-date accounting data. To that end, MC Bauchemie wanted to implement a cost-effective, reliable, secure environment for its financials environment.

Solution:
Realising that open standards would be ideal for the integrated environment that it envisioned, MC Bauchemie implemented an IBM eServer xSeries 225 server, leveraging the superior capabilities of Red Hat Linux V7.2. Replacing its outdated accounting solution, the customer migrated its accounting environment to a new PRONTO Software Enterprise Management System, running on the highly available xSeries server. In addition to the financials module of the PRONTO software, the company also implemented a distributions module. Using the PRONTO software as well as the flexible Linux environment, MC Bauchemie can fully integrate its financial and distribution systems with the remainder of its enterprise.

Benefits of the solution:
This new PRONTO on Linux solution will give MC Bauchemie quite a few advantages over its competitors. By leveraging its new PRONTO system, the customer can minimise duplicate transactions in its environment, improving efficiency. The flexibility of the environment and the easy-integration of the system provides the organisation's management with an enterprise-wide view of its systems. This newfound insight is expected to save the company a lot of time and, in turn, a lot of money. Additionally, with a more in depth view of its accounting, materials and production practices, inventory problems will be noticed long before they affect the production environment. By itself, the xSeries server offered the availability, flexibility and security that the company needed to run its business. However, coupling this system with the powerful yet versatile Linux operating system, provided MC Bauchemie with an unbeatable combination.
