| Corporate Affairs |
| IBM strongly believes that companies, like individuals, have a responsibility to put something back into the communities in which they live and work. Our Corporate Affairs business unit works to achieve this goal in a number of ways.
IBM worldwide puts an emphasis on supporting educational projects because we believe a company can only be successful when it operates in a successful community and communities can only be successful when they have a well-educated population.
Corporate Affairs is also responsible for fostering relationships with external constituents such as government and community leaders.
Key programs:
- Young Achievers. IBM employees volunteer time and skills to mentor year 11 students in the setting up of a business, making and marketing a product and running a business. The project allows students to gain an understanding of the workplace, and the various roles and skills needed to run a successful business.
- In Touch with Culture gives students, art enthusiasts and the general community greater access to cultural heritage. Examples include providing innovative solutions for the virtual art museum established by the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. IBM also collaborated to create a virtual 3-D replica of a major work from the Renaissance period. The team used computerised digital technology to transform a 2.5 meter high marble sculpture into more than two billion bits of data. The result was shown as part of the Art Gallery of NSW's Michelangelo to Matisse exhibition.
- A World of Science. This joint IBM-New York Hall of Science project will establish an education website that links Australian students, teachers and enthusiasts with major science centres around the world.
