Sony Corporation of Hong Kong

Sony Corporation of Hong Kong, Limited is the sales and distribution arm of Sony Corporation in Hong Kong. Sony's products are divided into two categories. One category includes consumer products such as Playstation, Walkmans, and a variety of mobile phones. The other category includes professional Audio/Visual technologies that are being sold to production houses. Sony operates five Sony Pro Shops and a customer service center in Hong Kong.

In the past, Sony's Web site was hosted by an ISP and did not provide the level of control Sony wanted with regard to e-business. Sony wants to have its own Web server system that would allow it to easily and more frequently update contents, as well as to collect useful business intelligence about its customers.

With IBM's e-business solutions, Sony now can offer Web site access to outsiders 24 hours a day. Sony is currently at the first stage of deployment and uses the system to post product and location information, perform site maintenance, and collect data related to how the site is used, using Netscape Proxy Server Reporting customization.

Since the implementation, the number of daily hits to the Web site has significantly increased. The RS/6000 provides Sony a secure, reliable system that will allow it to expand into the field of e-business and take advantage of business intelligence solutions.
