Web is becoming increasingly insecure. According to the newly released IBM X-Force® 2009 Mid-Year Trend and Risk Report, the number of new malicious Web links discovered in the first half of the year has increased by more than 500 percent.
The highly-anticipated report contains the latest information on computer security threats and trends from the first half of 2009.
It shows that the level of veiled Web exploits, especially PDF files, are at all time high. From Q1 to Q2 alone, the amount of suspicious, obfuscated or concealed content monitored by the IBM ISS Managed Security Services team nearly doubled, pointing to increase sophistication by attackers.
The report also highlights a significant rise in Web application attacks with the intent to steal and manipulate data and take command and control of infected computers.
Other key findings include:
- Trojans account for more than half of all new malware
- URL spam is still number one, but image-based spam is making a comeback
- Nearly half of all vulnerabilities remain unpatched
More than just a "report", the X-Force Trend and Risk Report provides vital information about all aspects of threats that affect Internet security, including software vulnerabilities, malware, spam, phishing, Web-based threats and general cyber criminal activity.
