The Project
With IBM Reading Companion Grant Program, emerging readers immediately hear feedbacks after reading aloud from a library of virtual books. The audio feedback is a result of a ground-breaking interactive voice recognition software application developed by IBM Research.
Students can:
- Practice reading as they acquire fundamental reading skills
- Read aloud and get immediate audio feedback on pronunciations and accuracy
- Access the program any time inside or outside classrooms
- Continue their lessons exactly where they left off in previous sessions
Teachers can:
- Access to evaluation reports/ statistics on students' performances
- Access to growing virtual library
- Access to "Book Builder"
Book Builder
- Enables students, teachers or volunteers to create their own e-books
- The e-book will become part of the library for all learners to use around the world
Target
Institutions with students from kindergarten to primary school
Application
Kindly submit your application online, applicants will be notified their results by mail once the selection procedures are completed.
Selection Criteria
In selecting centres to join the project, consideration will be given to the following:
- Must be a not for profit organisation (kindergartens, child care centres or primary schools)
- Evidence of innovative curriculum
- Willingness to develop an approach to computer use that is consistent with childhood philosophy
- Commitment to attend professional development offered by IBM in association with the project
