Chairman IBM India Private Limited
Vanitha Narayanan is the Chairman of IBM India Private Limited. Appointed to this leadership position in January 2017, she plays a critical role in leading strategic priorities, strengthening IBM’s partnership with the government
in enabling IBM’s global missions and evangelizing the organizations’ brand and solutions externally. She will also spearhead transformational initiatives for IBM’s global centers of excellence, while maximizing the value of the entire organization in ISA.
The role of chairman was created to place equal focus on strategic priorities, strengthening our partnership with the government and the ecosystem, lead the transformation of our capabilities and work closely with our labs in India in building local innovations with global impact.
In her earlier role as Managing Director of IBM India Private Limited, and Regional General Manager of IBM India/ South Asia, Vanitha was responsible for all of IBM's sales, marketing, services and global delivery operations in the India/South Asia region, including operations in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Having joined IBM in the US in 1987, Vanitha has over 29 years of experience working with multiple client sets and in several countries. Since 2009, she has been a part of the IBM ISA business, serving in roles as the Vice President of Sales & Distribution and then as the Managing Partner for Global Business Services (GBS). Prior to this, she has served as the Vice President of Communications sector, Asia Pacific, and the Global Vice President for IBM’s Telecom solutions & partnerships.
She is a member of IBM’s Growth & Transformation team that comprises senior Global Executives who are selected by the IBM Chairman. In 2012, Vanitha was inducted into the IBM Industry Academy, a select group of experts, designed to advance IBM’s industry thought leadership and brand. Vanitha is now an advisory board member of the Industry Academy. She is also a member of IBM’s Global Women’s Council.
Vanitha was the first woman chairperson of AMCHAM India (2015-2016) and continues to serve as a member on the National Executive Board. In addition, she is a member of the National Council of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) since 2013, Co-Chair of National Committee for MNCs of Confederation of Indian Industry. She was appointed the Chairperson of the board of governors for National Institutes of Technology (NIT) heading NIT-Suratkal, for a term of three years, by the President of India. Vanitha is also one of the Directors of Catalyst India Advisory Board. More recently, she was named among the 12 Global Indian Super Women of 2016 by CXOToday, as one of the ‘Most Powerful Women’ in Business in India (2016) by Business Today and conferred with the Degree of Doctor of Letters by the LNM Institute of Information Technology.
She has a Masters in Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Madras and a Masters in Business Administration in Information Systems from University of Houston - Magna Cum Laude. Vanitha is married with a daughter and resides in Bangalore, India
Managing Director IBM India Private Limited
Karan Bajwa is Managing Director of IBM India Pvt. Ltd and the Regional General Manager for India/South Asia (ISA). Appointed to this leadership position in January 2017, Karan is responsible for all strategic and operational matters related to IBM's sales, marketing, services and delivery operations in the India/South Asia region, including Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. He will be responsible for the revenue, signings and will also have responsibility for the company’s P&L in the region. He will lead the ISA team to win new business, shape market opportunities by building alliances and partnerships and solidify the company’s position in the marketplace.
Karan joined IBM in 2016 as Executive for Strategy and Transformation in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to this he was the Managing Director, Microsoft India where, besides leading the India business for the company, he also the led the Cloud Transition and the Ecosystem engagement. Under his leadership, Microsoft India achieved several milestones and recognition, both internally and externally. Prior to that he has served in various roles in Microsoft, Cisco and IBM. Karan brings with him an excellent understanding of enterprises as well as insight into the Indian public sector, having led the teams for these businesses for Microsoft for 6 years prior to being appointed MD.
Karan has spent almost 28 years in the IT and telecom industry, working for organizations like Microsoft, Cisco, and IBM. At Cisco, he handled various roles spanning the organization including Services, Business Development in the APAC region; and also had a successful stint as the head of the Public Sector Business for Cisco India. At IBM Singapore from 2001-2006 as the head for the Networking Business for ASEAN region, Karan was responsible for transforming the Networking business across the seven countries in the region.
An electronics engineer by training, Karan has a high amount of personal energy and drive and believes in leading from the front. While driving the business, he maintains a balance between strategy and tactics and is extremely focused on team building.
Karan is actively engaged in the startup ecosystem to learn the new economy and is also an angel investor with early positions in FindYahan (now Zimmber), NewBytes and TheManCompany.
Chandrasekar (Chandru) Thyagarajan
Vice President Finance and CFO IBM India/ South Asia
Chandru has 28 years of experience in finance and operations in Indian and global companies in the areas of business finance, accounting, costing of products and services, business controls and financial risk management, financial restructuring, sourcing of funds, procurement, real estate and transport operations.
Chandru has been with IBM for 16 years and has held several finance and operations leadership positions in IBM including that of CFO, IBM India/South Asia Domestic Business, COO for Global Business Services, IBM India/South Asia, CFO for Global Business Services, IBM Growth Markets based in Singapore, CFO for IBM Daksh Business Process Services and finance lead for IBM’s global delivery missions located in India.
Prior to joining IBM, Chandru worked for 12 years in several Indian companies in the automobile, financial services and IT industries.
Vice President and Head HR IBM India/ South Asia
DP Singh is currently the Vice President and HR Head for IBM India and South Asia. A seasoned HR professional with ~32 years of experience in HR and Business.
Prior to taking on this role, DP was the Human Resources Leader for IBM Middle East and Africa. DP has also been the BU HR Leader for IBM, Global Process Services, BPO Business, being delivered out of India and Philippines. In addition, he has also held the position of HR Leader for IBM in North India.
DP Singh got into IBM with the acquisition of DaksheServices in 2004. He also has entrepreneurial experience of managing his own HR Consultancy. During this period, he was associated with the IT & ITEs sector in addition to other industries. He was also Director - HR with Xansa Technology, a British Technology and Outsourcing Company which was later acquired by the French Company, Seteria. He began his career with the Eicher Group of Companies in India which is known for its strong HR practices in the automobile industry.
A Law Graduate from Delhi University, DP Singh additionally holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration (HR) from The University Business School, Chandigarh, India. He is actively involved in sharing his perspective on variety of HR subjects in various forums.
DP Singh is currently the chairperson AMCham HR Committee and an active member of "SHRM India Think Tank Forum."
Vice President - IBM India Software Labs and
Vice President - Growth IBM India & South Asia
Gaurav is the Vice President of IBM India Software Labs (ISL), one of the largest development and innovation centres located across multiple cities. As the leader, Gaurav is responsible for steering market-centric approach within the labs, driving technology innovations that are important for customers and establishing deep relationships with clients, Systems Integrators, Individual Software Vendors and Developer community.
Gaurav is also the Vice President – Growth for India & South Asia. In this portfolio, Gaurav is responsible for leading engagement with Strategic Clients and building new platform partnerships within the geography.
Prior to this assignment, Gaurav was the Director, IBM Global System Integrators (GSI) Lab, IBM Watson Internet of Things & Education engineering teams at the IBM India Software Labs. In his role as the Director of IBM GSI lab, Gaurav was responsible for engaging with the leading Global System Integrators, building joint assets & solutions on IBM platforms, creating Centres of Competency within the GSIs, and combining IBM thought leadership & innovations for joint sales pursuits. His key responsibilities under the Watson offerings included leading the engineering teams to develop products, solutions and tools from the IBM India Software Labs.
Gaurav joined IBM in 1996 and has held various leadership positions including leading the Enterprise Social Solutions and Smarter Workforce teams at ISL. He played an instrumental role in building and driving the Enterprise Content Management and Database development within the labs. He was responsible for developing several market-leading products and established strong working relationships with varied stakeholders both within and outside of IBM.
Gaurav has vast experience in various technology areas, specializing in Cognitive technology, Analytics (both structured and unstructured), enterprise content management (products and solutions) and information management.
He is a Master’s in Software Engineering from BITS Pilani and Bachelors in Technology, Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi.
Kartik Shahani is the Integrated Security Leader, IBM, India/ South Asia. He joined IBM in April 2017and is responsible for both IBM Security Software and IBM Security Services business and growing its numbers significantly. He will lead all strategic and operational matters related to IBM Security in the India/South Asia region
Kartik has spent over 25 years in the IT industry, leading various roles for IT giants. In his last role, he was the Managing Director, RSA - India/SAARC (DellEMC). During his stint, there he achieved successful milestones in terms of managing and growing the India / SAARC business for RSA. Prior to that Kartik has held several senior positions at McAfee India Sales Pvt. Ltd., NTT Netmagic, and Xerox and in all his previous assignments, he has played an instrumental role in the complete turnaround of the company’s operations and growth. While driving the business, he maintains a balance between strategy and tactics and is extremely focused on team building.
Kartik holds an Engineering Degree from the University of Bombay, along with an MBA in Law and Finance from the University of New England, Australia.
Vice President India Systems Development Lab (ISDL) IBM India
Monica is responsible for the strategy and execution of Power Systems, z Systems and Storage Systems. She also leads teams across system integrators, ISVs, lab based services and digital techline with a strong focus on delivering value to clients through new offerings and solutions.
In her previous role, Monica was based in the US where she led the transformation of Open Source Software Ecosystem development across IBM Systems.
Monica joined IBM in 2000, and has experience working on software defined systems, operating systems, middleware, mainframes and ERPs. She has 19 years of development experience and has worked across software, systems and has held various product development and management positions.
Monica has a strong focus on working with clients, developing leadership pipeline and operational excellence that has resulted in building a globally integrated lab. She is a Post Graduate in Business Management and holds a Bachelors in Technology (Computer Science).
Chief Digital Officer, IBM India/South Asia
Nipun Mehrotra was appointed in 2017 as IBM’s Chief Digital Officer (CDO) for India/South Asia and the business head of the newly formed “Digital Business Group (DBG)” to help transform the way IBM engages and partners with the burgeoning tech eco system comprising of Start Ups, Academia, Developers & several Investors. Nipun and his team will be at the forefront of leading IBM’s customers in their digital transformation journey in collaboration with the ecosystem.
This is one of the first IBM CDO positions in a market geography, reflective of India’s importance in the tech eco system. DBG has specialized deep skills in Data Sciences, AI/Cognitive technologies; builds new business models & partnerships (eg: IBM Garage) to integrate the innovation priorities of Clients, Ecosystem & IBM in Fintech, Retail/Fashion, Education, Health - being a few industry domains of focus.
Over the last two years, as the VP for Strategy/Growth Initiatives he led IBM's transformational strategy across several areas in Asia & India, including re-balancing IBM’s "go to market" model across Industry/Digital sales; working with Tech Ecosystem and strengthening global strategic partnerships.
Through his 30-year career in the Tech industry - based out of Delhi, Bangalore, Shanghai and Singapore has led strategic shifts while leading large operational business units (Systems, Technology Services, Enterprise Sales in Asia Pacific, etc.). His expertise lies in successfully straddling innovation with operational execution.
Nipun is passionate about using “Design Thinking” and the power of Cognitive/AI capabilities to build client-centric, “future-ready” organizations. Serves on the Board of Advisors for several as well as mentors 25+ young “start-ups” and 100+ professionals - especially women to front line roles. Is an active panelist, speaker and certified coach.
In 2016, co-authored an extensive consulting study on “Ecosystem India – Making India essential in the Eco System economy.” on behalf of “IBM Institute of Business Value”.
He works closely with dozens of clients helping CXO’s with “Digital Transformation” by driving innovation in their Business Model, Technology strategy and Leadership enablement; including setting up and leading an Enterprise level innovation council/board.
Dr. Prashant Pradhan
CTO & Chief Developer Advocate, IBM India/South Asia
Dr. Prashant as the CTO and Chief Developer Advocate will lead a team of Deep Technology experts to drive IBM’s Platform conversations around Cloud and Cognitive with Enterprises, ISV's, Developers, and Startups.
In his earlier role, he was leading IBM’s Watson Business for India and South Asia. Prior to this he was leading IBM’s Smarter Cities business for India and South Asia, with a portfolio covering Smarter Cities, Analytics, and Smarter Commerce.
Prashant is a senior executive at IBM with experience spanning IBM Global Services and IBM Research, across multiple geographies. Prashant joined IBM in 2001 as a Research Scientist at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center in New York, after completing his PhD in Computer Science from State University of New York, Stony Brook. He received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from IIT Delhi in 1996. Prashant moved to India in 2007 on an IBM international assignment, eventually moving to the India South Asia Business Unit in 2008.
During his tenure in India, Prashant was responsible for IBM India’s maiden deals in key industry verticals including Telecom Passive Infrastructure, Renewable Energy and Financial Inclusion. Prashant is a recipient of numerous corporate and academic awards and honors. He has served as chairman, panelist and speaker in numerous international conferences and prominent industry forums.
Country Leader, Developer Ecosystem & Startups, IBM India/South Asia
Seema as the Country Leader for the ecosystem business leads the developers, startups, IT Pros, VCs, Students, influencers, Government, and policy makers’ engagement and defines and owns the lifecycle of relationships with them representing IBM India across brands and disciplines. The work done by her team is focused on infusing IBM cognitive and cloud technologies to help developers propel their careers and tech startups to build scalable platforms to drive their business.
She has been with IBM for over 12 years and has managed various portfolio spanning product consulting, product management, business development, strategic alliances and partner development. She has an in-depth understanding of the technology landscape in India and has been part of some of the key shifts in the industry such as Enterprise mobility, Cloud, business process management, commerce, marketing technology, and security.
Seema has a specialization in general management in IT from IIM Bangalore and has completed her Masters in Software Technology from National Center for Software Technology and holds a BSc in Computer Science from PSG college of Arts and Science.
Director for IBM Research IBM India
Sriram Raghavan is the Director for IBM Research in India and the CTO for IBM India/South Asia. In his role as Director, Sriram is responsible for establishing and executing the technical agenda of IBM's India Research Lab in collaboration with IBM's worldwide research labs and business units. In his role as CTO, Sriram is responsible for representing and communicating IBM's overall technical vision & strategy with key stakeholders across the India/South Asia ecosystem - from developers and startups to key clients, analysts, media, and industry experts.
Over the past two years, Sriram has established and grown IBM Research-India into a world class center of competency for blockchain, driving both deep technology innovations and first of a kind blockchain-based solutions. Sriram serves as the worldwide blockchain leader for IBM Research, working closely with IBM's industry platforms and global services businesses to take innovative blockchain solutions to clients across the globe. Prior to his current role, Sriram led the Information & Analytics Department at IBM Research-India, establishing new research directions at the intersection of large scale data management, text analytics, and distributed systems.
Sriram has been with IBM since 2004 when he first joined the Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California, as a Research Staff Member. Sriram is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai and Stanford University and an elected member of the IBM Academy of Technology.
Vice President GTS, India Client Innovation Centers IBM India
With over 21 years in the IT Industry, Vickram brings rich knowledge and deep expertise in Infrastructure Management, Service Delivery & Management, IT Operations, Quality and Consulting.
In his previous role as the Director of SO Delivery, Delivery Centre – Delhi (India), Vickram was responsible for managing remote infrastructure services provided to clients around the world. Some of his key accomplishments include contributing to the Regional Delivery Center (RDC) strategy as a key architect, developing RDC Delhi from a Greenfield site of 574 FTE and negligible management and support systems to a strong 2500 + FTE with a proficient Leadership team and implementing GDF in India across competencies among others.
Vickram joined IBM in 2006, and has held key leadership positions over the years and his innate passion for service delivery excellence and client management has established him as a consummate leader.
Vickram has been a Corporate Services Corp. - Egypt team and more recently, has been part of the Smarter City project in Peru to assess and recommend security for the city of Trujillo.
Before joining IBM, Vickram worked in the Australian Telecommunication sector, managing and setting up delivery centers, data centers for tier 2 and 3 telephony fixed line, mobile and internet companies. Additionally, he has experience working in the Logistics and Freight Industry.
Vickram is a Management Graduate from Victoria University – Australia, specializing in Operations Management, Strategy and MIS.
