Software Engineering

As an IBM software engineer, you will architect, design, develop, test and maintain various applications and their functions, features and supporting systems. These supporting systems can include operating systems/architecture, middleware, application software, database and user interfaces in a variety of programming languages. The software engineering career provides IBMers with opportunities to use design documentation, such as Functional Programming specifications, use cases, and high level design documents to implement the identified requirements in addition to providing fixes to defects identified throughout the software development life cycle.

Software Test Engineering

An IBM software test engineer is required to fully test a product or system to ensure it functions according to specifications and customer requirements and meets the business needs. Testing activities cover all aspects of the product/system including function/component, performance, system, regression, and service. Thus, as a software test engineer you must demonstrate knowledge of the domain you are responsible for testing. Your knowledge of the product target market, customer environment and indepth knowledge of testing methodologies, tools and techniques will be very useful. Software test engineers like you may set up test environments, design test plans, develop test cases/scenarios/use cases, and execute these cases. Experience on Mercury & Rational tools an added advantage.As a tester, you will investigate problems uncovered during analysis and design and execute test cases as appropriate. As part of your other responsibilities, you also provide feedback on usability, serviceability, documentation, and report status to the appropriate audience. Software testing is an important role at IBM that ensures the quality of our projects for ourselves and our clients.

Software Development

The software developer role function requires candidates to develop code using programming specifications, high level design documents and implement the identified components based on client requirements. Software Developers also ensure that the implemented components are unit tested and ready to be integrated into the product.
