Your Action Required before you arrive

Before you start working at IBM, review this section carefully. Use the prestart checklist to ensure that you are prepared to complete the required forms you will receive on your first day.

This checklist will help you gather the information you'll need on your first day. If you have questions, please contact your connections advisor.

First-day start forms

You will need to complete the forms listed below on your first day at IBM. Be sure you're prepared to complete them correctly. Correct completion of this form is a federal requirement and is mandatory for all employees.

Identification documentation must be provided for IBM's review and copying. You will not be processed into IBM if you fail to provide the acceptable documentation

First day orientation

"Your IBM" is a new employee orientation class designed to help you hit the ground running as you begin your career at IBM. This class will give you the road map to help you understand your company's core values, rich heritage of technology leadership, Innovation, and the important role employees are being asked to play as we continue to drive growth and innovation.

What to expect

Your first days at IBM will be at one of the locations in India where you will take part in interactive and thoughtful discussions about IBM, our values, strategic direction and the role you will play as you begin your career.

This classroom experience will include a group of new employees with a variety of backgrounds, working in a range of IBM divisions, so you can begin to create a network of colleagues that spans the company.

Your IBM will include all the basics, such as filling out your paperwork and learning about IBM benefits, but it is designed to give you much more. This experience should leave you with a better understanding of your company and its place in the world.

There will be conversations around a variety of topics, including:

  • IBM Leadership Through the Years
  • Our Values at Work
  • Collaborating Across the Matrix
  • Overview on Innovation and On-Demand business
  • Professional Development at IBM
  • Becoming Productive (Tools)
  • The Next Steps

Progression

Once you have grasped the basics, you will be encouraged to spread your wings. This could mean taking on Projects, developing your profile with a customer, growing your professional network and organising your education. You will be supported during this time by your manager and your Connections Coach, or receive guidance from a "mentor" who will help you along the way.

Throughout your first few months, you will have a steep learning curve, but all the time there will be an infrastructure to support you. You can talk to your manager, connections coach and team members. Or access information sources such as the IBM Intranet, which includes career development and professional websites, as well as the Connections website dedicated to new IBMers.

Eventually, you will begin to feel more comfortable and settled at IBM. With your manager, you will discuss your development, ... your commitments, .....progress .......as well as your needs and career aspirations.

As you can see, wherever you turn, there is support so don't be afraid to ask questions!!!

Connections Advisor

You'll be assigned a connections coach who will play an important role during your first 90 days at IBM. Your connections coach is around to help you get acclimated to IBM after the Your IBM class, so feel free to ask your coach about things you wouldn't want to ask your manager — where to get coffee, where to make a copy, or where to get other information. Take advantage of this valuable resource.
