A little about Hutchison Telecom.
Hutchison established its presence in India in 1994,
through a joint venture with Max India Limited. In 1995,
Hutchison Max Telecom became the first operator in India
to launch its cellular service. It is also the country's largest
roaming operator, with the most extensive network in India
and around the world.
Hutchison is part of the Hong Kong based multinational
conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa Limited, a Fortune 500
company, and one of the largest companies listed on the
Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Its operations span 41
countries across the Asia Pacific region, Europe and the
Americas. Hutchison affiliates jointly account for the
largest number of cellular subscribers in India
numbering over 4 million.
The company's growing pains.
Hutchison required a standardised solution for their issues.
Hutchison being the largest cellular service had to provide the
service executives with readily available customer information on
their desk.
The challenge of this project for IBM was to literally put the
information of Hutchison's existing 4 million subscribers across all
the major cities in India, on the fingertips of the customer service
executives and help them provide highly responsive service to
customers.
Hutchison expected to add another 4 million subscribers by the end
of 2004.

solution. This partnership has given it a new edge in the
market. Now Hutchison expects to add another 4 million
subscribers to the already existing 4 million customers. The
IBM solution has enabled the customer service executives
to connect better with their customers, by providing them
