Dinamalar or the "Daily Malar" is a daily newspaper in India. Founded by T. V. Ramasubbaiyer in 1951, the newspaper has grown to become the world's leading Tamil daily newspaper, and has always remained impartial to political parties.
To support daily publication of its newspapers in multiple cities across India, Dinamalar runs branch offices in Madurai, Coimbatore and Pondy in addition to its headquarters in Chennai. Prior to the new solution, all four offices were running traditional tower and rack servers, which prevented centralized management. The aging infrastructure made administration difficult, and all of the company's locations were experiencing performance issues. Dinamalar was also relying upon a decentralized storage system, which similarly complicated management and administration. Moving forward, the company needed to repopulate its infrastructure with powerful server and storage technology that would enable centralized management and elevate performance levels.
To achieve its goals, Dinamalar joined forces with IBM Global Technology Services - Integrated Technology Services and IBM Business Partner Ripples Solutions Madurai. After analyzing the previously existing environment, the IBM team replaced the company's aging servers with IBM BladeCenter technology at each location. To support mission-critical applications at Dinamalar headquarters in Chennai, Global Technology Services implemented an IBM BladeCenter E chassis populated with 7 IBM BladeCenter HS22 servers running the Windows operating system. To support the branch offices, the IBM team implemented an IBM BladeCenter S chassis with 4 BladeCenter HS22 servers running Windows in Madurai, and a BladeCenter S chassis with 3 HS22 servers running Windows in Pondy and Coimbatore. Global Technology Services also implemented an IBM System Storage DS3400 disk system at the Chennai head office, which will enable centralized storage for important internal data and media files.
Benefits of the Solution:
By engaging IBM Global Technology Services - Integrated Technology Services to repopulate its infrastructure with robust IBM BladeCenter and IBM System Storage technology, Dinamalar has gained tighter, more consistent control of its computing environment through centralized management. The new infrastructure is not only easier to manage - it also heightens the performance of the company's mission-critical applications. In addition, the new BladeCenter and System Storage hardware feature a reduced footprint, enabling Dinamalar to save space in all of its offices. The company is very satisfied with the IBM team, which delivered a quick and efficient implementation that fulfilled all of its expectations.
