Associate Director The Research on Solutions at IBM Research-India focuses on creating innovative technologies for building industry-specific solutions and making complex systems smarter, as well as on application of optimization and analytics to solve difficult real-world problems. There are four major groups within Solutions: (1) Analytics and Optimization, (2) Information Management, (3) Next-Generation Systems & Smarter Planet Solutions, and (4) Telco Innovations.
The Analytics and Optimization group is focused on developing innovative research tools to solve complex problems such as workforce management in a globally integrated enterprise. Another focus area is business analytics and optimization (BAO) for industries such as banking, media & entertainment, travel & transportation and retail.
In the Information Management space, the emphasis is on novel technologies for building complex solutions. Examples include scalable algorithms for data cleansing, information extraction, integration of structured and unstructured data, leveraging unstructured content for master data management, platforms for massive scale analytics, enterprise search, and predictive analytics for targeted marketing.
Research in the next generation systems envisages building cyber-physical system solutions involving large volumes of data from sensors and other data sources for a smarter planet using advanced techniques from multiple disciplines, including wireless-IT convergence technologies, data center networking, high-performance computing and analytics systems (including multi-core and streaming architectures) and semantic representations. Specific domains of interest include smarter energy grids, smarter transportation in emerging markets, weather/climate modeling and flood prediction.
Within telco-related research, the areas of interest are mobile computing with the goal of creating innovative solutions for the bottom of the pyramid, mobile application frameworks, presence-federation platforms for context-aware services, technologies for machine-to-machine communication and the Internet of Things, and social network analysis of large-scale telco data.
