This axiom is at the heart of IBM's Academic Initiative program objectives which aims at empowering the students of today to face the challenges of the marketplace of tomorrow. The Academic initiative program facilitates a global model of partnership between industry and academia to drive evolving open standards-based IT skills - essentially "in demand skills for an on demand world."
In India, IBM Academic Initiative program runs projects such as Project INVITE ( partnering with IT progressive States that are rapidly adopting Information Technology to enhance E-Governance and Citizen Services), The Great Mind Challenge contest (promotes students from engineering colleges from across India to develop real life solutions, in a real life scenario using IBM open source software) and Tivoli Reach program ( latest technology enablement of the students with no prior experience of the technology). In order the help students get suitably placed in jobs IBM Academic Initiative has introduced the Student job portal which enables the final year students to post their resumes on the site for visibility at the right forums thereby enhancing their chances of employability.
Further IBM assists the students not only to come across real time project scenarios but also helps them with free hands on training sessions in the technologies involved in making solutions for those projects, providing a ready list of ementors from IBM they can consult for their projects and free downloads of the software and ebooks involved in making of their projects.
