Biggest and best Open ever.

Hi guys!

Every day the tournament created new memories for me. Whether it was catching up with long-serving staff members, meeting new recruits, or receiving SMS messages from staff that were just proud to be part of Australian Open, the buzz & excitement around the venue during the fortnight was that it was the biggest and best Australian Open ever.

In addition, delivering an exceptionally high calibre workforce, that helped make Australian Open 2008 the phenomenal success it was, is something I'm very proud of.

I can't wait to bring all the fun and excitement of Australian Open to Melbourne Park again in 2009!

Thanks,

Carla

Finalising everything.

Hey guys!

The next few weeks for me are really finalising pay and going to break up parties! I'm looking forward to it all, but I think I'll miss everyone who's worked so hard to make it a great Australian Open. Check out the video below to hear more.

The Typical Trip.

Hey guys!

Check out the video below to see a typical trip that a player, or a tournament guest, would take when they first arrive at Rod Laver arena.

Would you like to be a part of AO 09?

Yes, we are on the cusp of the Open for 2008, but we're also well underway for planning our recruitment and retention plans for next year's tournament. If you'd like to work here with us at Tennis Australia during next year's Open, click on the video and I'll tell you how you can get started.

Suddenly, we have 4,000 new staff members!

This is the week where we go from a cast of hundreds to a team of thousands. Just because we have a large temporary workforce, doesn't mean we don't have to keep them informed, organized, motivated and rewarded. Click on the video and I'll tell you a little about how we do it.

My last break for quite a while

_Saturday January 5th 2008 15:50

We managed to have a mini-break over Christmas and are now well into executing all different projects we've been working on last year! Although the tournament is still more than a week away, most functional tournament areas commence earlier than Day 1 of Main Draw, so for us that means a whole range of different things relating to staff need to be ready by Venue Lock-down! These include activating meal allowances, organising our automated payroll system, finalising our performance appraisal system & reward and recognition program, allocating different staff benefits, and would you believe, finalising employment procedures for AO2009!

The buzz around the venue is fantastic, everyone is ready to go!

The lead up!

_Friday December 14th 2007 14:10

Hey everybody!

Both training days, Saturday 1 December and Sunday 2 December, were a success. Approx 600 tournament staff visited Melbourne Park over the 'Staff Launch' weekend where they were officially welcomed by Steve Wood and Craig Tiley to Tennis Australia and Australian Open 2008. The revitalised Australian Open brand and associated marketing were presented to all tournament staff members. Another key component of the weekend was the collection of the Official Australian Open tournament uniform and Accreditation passes - both of which were co-ordinated by our Operations and Events department.

For many staff, the weekend marked the final stage in the recruitment process in their respective positions for Australian Open 2008.

In the coming weeks, leading up to the beginning of January, we will be focussing on ensuring all outstanding staff vacancies are finalised, making sure the compulsory Tournament Staff Online induction program is completed by any outstanding staff members and preparing our automated payroll system - to go live on January 2.

Live!

_Thursday October 31st 2007 17:10

Hey everybody!

Because most people never get to see behind the scenes at Australian Open, they'd never know about the escalation in the number of staff during the tournament. For the uninitiated, most of the year Tennis Australia is just a normal small-to-medium sized organisation. However, for two weeks of the year we're busy as bees and need as much help as we can get!

So, luckily for us, the Tournament Staff Online Induction goes live tomorrow! The course, which has 1500 staff completing it, contains important tournament and general Australian Open information that all staff members are expected to be familiar with prior to commencing their employment with Tennis Australia. It contains an assessment activity (modelled on the Australian Open tournament) with staff only able to collect their accreditation passes or uniforms the course is successfully passed.

With the bulk of my work in HR completed by early January - as staff are recruited, trained and inducted by then - the tournament period itself mainly involves face-to-face staff contact to ensure everything is on track.
