Hey,

Last night was one of the earliest nights out of the venue for a while. So, I organised for a few of my Sydney and UK IBM colleagues to come to my place for my wife's home cooked roast. Check out the pictures below!

Regards,
Seamus

Hey,

It's still hot but the wind is picking up which is good. On the work front we've had a few network issues around the area, but nothing we couldn't sort out. Other than that things are running smoothly. Watch me talk about it in more detail below.

60 degrees in the shade

January in Melbourne is renowned for hot weather, but this is getting ridiculous. The forecast was for 41 degrees. The on-court thermometer is pushing 43.8 but I'd put the temperature in our equipment storage containers at 60 plus. It's actually too dangerous to go in there alone, in case you pass out from the heat. Click on the video and come with me for a look inside.

Every IT professional needs bolt cutters.

The last couple of the weeks of the year are usually party time for most people, but we're not most people.

My team has just finished building 3 System x servers and connected the cameras to start the Smart Surveillance Solution load, which will be demo'd during the Tournament.

Smart Surveillance Solution

We had a small hiccup when we unloaded the IBM Kiosks - no keys for one of the roadcases! Some slight persuasion (and some bolt cutters) convinced the case to open...

Forklift

A couple of days after Christmas the new System x 7979 server arrives and Adam Peck (IBM team-mate) & myself build and load it with Redhat in readiness for the Historical Database application that the media, players & public will use.

The last days of the year see some of the Scoring Systems arrive from the US and placed in the Tournament Server Room (TSR), which is rapidly taking shape and will be in full production soon

Pulling up ok.

Hey guys,

Here's a little about me. My name's Seamus, I've been working with IBM in various support roles for 26 years and I love working together with the folks at Tennis Australia.

Whether it's player IT related problems, international press access, client demonstration set-up or client demos, I'm your man. Because, chances are, if it has an IBM logo on it I've worked with it.

Speak soon,
Seamus.
