Formula One is the largest annual sporting event in the world; only the Olympics and FIFA World Cup draw as many television viewers and neither of those events occurs every year. In addition, the sport is a passion among technology leaders and decision makers. A global survey of 90,000 technology leaders found that 91 percent said both that they attend at least 15 of the Formula One races each year and that "Formula One showcases the most advanced technology." F1 is a data-intensive, computing-intensive endeavor, highly focused and invested in innovation and development, and highly dependent on information technology. Formula One
