Corporate citizenship and corporate affairs

Corporate citizenship

As a global company, IBM's philanthropic goal is to use our expertise and technology where they can make the biggest difference in our communities.

In Malaysia, since its inception in 1961, IBM and its employees have supported the communities in which we live and work.Nationally we are one of the leading corporate contributors to not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions.

In all our efforts, we help people use information technology to improve the quality of life for themselves and others.Consequently, our contributions target a few key areas where we can leverage our expertise in technology. In Malaysia, we focus on K-12 education- particularly in disadvantaged communities, supporting people with disabilities and addressing the digital divide.

To this end we have a dedicated Corporate Citizenship & Corporate Affairs Unit that works in partnership with not-for-profit organisations in these areas, coordinating the donation of funds, technology and employee time to support specific programs. In addition where we perceive gaps in community resources, we develop technology programs and tools such as the KidSmart Early Learning Program, the online science museum TryScience.org, IBM's MentorPlace Program, EX.I.T.E Camps, Cultural Programs and Web Adaptation Technology, to name a few.

Through our corporate example, IBM also fosters a culture that encourages employee volunteerism. Every year hundreds of IBM employees volunteer their time to a broad range of local causes. We have formalised this spirit of volunteerism through our On Demand Community program which rewards volunteer hours with funds or technology donations to individuals' chosen charities.By using our technology, employee expertise and volunteering efforts, our corporate and individual projects improve the lives of vulnerable communities throughout Malaysia.
