The Open Computing Centre (OCC) aims to promote the adoption of open computing platforms in Singapore and the ASEAN region. Specifically, it will drive open standards based Web Services and Linux skills adoption, by providing technical enablement , and actively driving key reference pilot projects in Web Services and Linux with both customers and business partners. The OCC will also cultivate ISVs to use IBM open computing platforms in software and hardware as the platform of choice for their solution deployment.
The OCC combines expertise of industry-leading players who embrace open computing platforms and IBM's worldwide resources consisting of over 1000 developers devoted to XML, over 1,500 developers devoted to Linux and nearly 4000 Java professionals to deliver best-of-breed products and services to OCC customers and business partners.

IBM and NYP will provide a quick-start training programme where students, business partners and developers will learn how to build Web services solutions quickly and effectively using the IBM WebSphere software suite. WIZ will also serve as a test bed for leading-edge Web services pilot projects providing customers with the ability to leverage IBM Websphere’s advanced, multi-platform build and deployment features that allow software developers to work with whatever programming model they are most familiar with and deploy on the platform of their choice -- UNIX, mainframe or WinTel. This will make it easier for users to build and deploy their Web services applications and accelerate the adoption of Web services in Singapore.

The IBM Open Computing Centre’s Linux node, LIZ, will promote adoption of Linux by business partners, customers and developers by providing them with a platform to rapidly build, test and deploy a wide variety of Linux-based solutions, including solutions for finance, retail, e-commerce, telecommunications, distribution and manufacturing. IBM will also provide training for the enablement of IBM Linux-based middleware, products and solutions as well as Linux technical support and integration services. The facility, located at IBM’s regional headquarters at Changi Business Park, will help users quickly deliver solutions on an open platform that is integrated, pre-configured and tested for maximum results.
