IBM is seeking to build on its success in the SMB market globally. With an emphasis on the emerging markets like India, Russia and China and an expanding portfolio of products and services, the Small and Medium division is aiming to continue as IBM's fastest growing segment.

IBM in India too has a increasing focus on the SMB or the midmarket segment. This markets are estimated to grow double digit for the next three years. IBM is investing in this space with resources and expanding its presence in 14 new cities as part of its geographical expansion plan. SMB has expanded to the 9 cities in the past 11 months which include Cochin, Chandigarh, Goa, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Nagpur, Bhopal, Jaipur and Jamshedpur. As part of it strategy to aggressively tap the SMB market in India, IBM is slated to expand operations in 5 additional cities including Nasik, Surat, Bhubaneswar, Madurai and Ludhiana.

SMB's are now competing globally and need to gain a competitive edge to win amidst global competition. Technology provided this edge to them. IBM plans to work hand-in-hand with local ISVs to provide new and existing clients with additional value-added solutions that are specifically tailored to the local market.
