The new generation of scale-out servers with Xtended Design Architecture gives you new levels of opportunity to get the most out of your computing resources. Take a look at improved scalable CPU and memory designs, affordable high-speed I/O expansion and virtualisation solutions that maximize resource utilization. Manage your business with new tools such as Power Executive that build your confidence in your datacenter power architecture, and new Ethernet offload technologies that can ease processor performance bottlenecks. Even in the most demanding environments, high availability features such as hot-swap SAS drives and integrated hardware RAID protect your investment well into the future.
Rack servers
For rack-dense environments, the new IBM System x3550 and IBM System x3650 servers include two Intel® Xeon™ dual core processors and new power management tools to deliver distinctive availability features. Calibrated Vectored Cooling™, which was introduced as part of Xtended Design Architecture two years ago, continues to enable improvements in storage, memory and I/O. These include additional hot-swap hard drives for higher availability, performance and storage capacity; additional DIMM slots for memory mirroring and on-line spare; an optional integrated Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA) II card preserves full PCI expandability; and PCI-Express high-speed I/O adapter support to increase performance. The x3650 and x3550 also feature optional hot-swap redundant power and fans for maximum uptime and reliability.
Tower servers
Practical innovation is also packed into the new IBM dual core System x3400 and IBM System x3500 tower servers. In addition to hot-swap redundant hard drive and power capabilities and up to 48GB of fast fully buffered memory, these new towers also feature powerful rich integrated functions to ease deployment and control costs. The x3500 offers a variety of diagnostic tools ?ranging from basic management with IPMI 2.0 support to integrated baseboard management controller (BMC) light path diagnostic capability and side-cover viewable information panel. Features that are designed to help increase server uptime and lower operating costs.
Systems management
These new systems are easy to deploy, and even easier to manage with the new IBM Director 5.1 systems management suite. Expanded Linux support, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0, provides aggregated, color-coded health status for easy system assessments. Other capabilities include single-click configuration and group support for software rejuvenation, enhanced security for remote console and power control, and additional standards-based alerting. These ease-of-use features allow you to focus on the processes that fuel your growth, and simplify the ones that keep your business running today.
Workstations
IBM is also extending the workstation family with the new IBM IntelliStation® Z Pro. This workstation includes the Intel® Xeon™ processors with Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology, as well as the latest technologies to power your most demanding applications. It has been optimized for compute-intensive applications, with a trio of PCI Express x16 graphics adapters from NVIDIA, up to 16GB1 of DDR2 memory, and an 800MHz system bus.
