Startwise

Highlights

Orientation
The orientation of IBM's Startwise Program is comprised of a two-day induction that is designed to introduce new grads to the graduate program. The orientation is also an opportunity for networking and interaction with fellow peers.

Graduate Connect Sessions
Graduate Connect Sessions are monthly informative sessions that are designed to assist graduates with their integration into the IBM Company. Common features of the session include subject matter experts presenting on topical areas alongside overviews of business units and different company strategies.

Graduate Facilitated Mentoring Program
The Graduate Facilitated Mentoring program is a three month program that teaches graduates the fundamental elements of a successful mentoring relationship.

Graduate Network
The graduate network is a network run completely by graduates. As soon as you start as an IBM graduate, you automatically become part of the grad network. More than anything else, the network provides support for new graduates as well as creating a fun, collaborative environment in which to work.

Graduate Inferno Recognition Event
This is the primary recognition event for new graduates in their first 12 months at IBM. The event provides our top performing graduates with a unique IBM experience that is designed to contribute to the overall progression of their future careers.

Business Acumen Simulation and Graduation
The business acumen simulation offers graduates the opportunity to simulate C-level decision making in hypothetical situations. It offers graduates a new perspective on the happenings that occur during day-to-day business. After the simulation graduates participate in a graduation ceremony which marks the final stage of the Startwise program.

Eligibility

To be eligible for our Internship Program you must meet the following criteria:
Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or permanent residency holder
Be enrolled in a tertiary degree at a University in Australia or New Zealand
Have a strong academic record, i.e. credit average or above
Less than 2 years relevant work experience

Location

We have opportunities in a number of locations across Australia and New Zealand. Locations may vary depending on demand and you may at times need to travel between IBM locations and client sites.
Sydney: St. Leonards, West Pennant Hills and Client site.
Melbourne: Southbank and Client site.
Other: New Zealand (Auckland & Wellington), Canberra, Bathurst, Adelaide, Perth, Ballarat and Brisbane.

How to apply

We want to get to know the real you. This is not only about what degree you have decided study but also what interests you and how you fill your time, your career ambition, what makes you tick.

  1. Upload your CV, cover letter, current academic transcript, and current right to work documents (valid passport, or birth certificate and valid drivers license).
  2. You will be invited to sit our online aptitude test the following business day after you’ve applied online.
    Note: If you’ve taken this test for another graduate/intern position in the past 12 months, then you’ll not be required to sit this test again.
  3. Once you’ve passed the aptitude test, you’ll be called for a phone interview. This interview will establish whether you meet our minimum requirements (credit average, no more than 2 years relevant work experience, graduated from an Australian / New Zealand university no more than 2 years ago and AU/NZ citizen). If you are a good fit for one of our positions, you’ll be invited to a HR interview (if you are outside of the Melbourne or Sydney, your interview will be over the phone).
  4. Upon passing your second interview, you’ll be shortlisted for either roles:
    a) (For graduates) Invited to attend either an assessment centre, or to a panel interview
    b) (For interns) A hiring manager will review your CV, and if they believe that you are suitable for this role, they’ll ask your recruiter to set up a final interview.
  5. We always aim to let you know the outcome of your final assessment as soon as possible. To help you get the most from your experience with us, we’ll also offer feedback on your interview. If you’re successful at this stage, you will receive a formal offer.
  6. You’ll find a large community of people at IBM ready to welcome you. In the months before you take up your position, you'll have a chance to meet your peers and new colleagues in one of our keep in touch events. We encourage you to take advantage of these occasions to help prepare for your first day at IBM and start building your network.
