Karan Bajwa is a business leader with rich experience and expertise in driving transformation across the IT and Telecom sector in India as well as in the Asia Pacific region. Karan is currently the Managing Director of IBM India Pvt. Ltd and the Regional General Manager for India South Asia. He is responsible for all of IBM's sales, marketing, services and delivery operations in the India/South Asia region, including Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. In addition, Karan also plays a key role in enabling capabilities across IBM’s global missions in India, including research and innovation labs. Karan took up this role in 2017 with a mandate to make IBM the number one Cloud and Cognitive solutions company in India/South Asia.
Prior to joining IBM, Karan was the Managing Director, Microsoft India, where besides leading the India business for the company, he also the led the Cloud Transition and the Ecosystem engagement. Under his leadership, Microsoft India achieved success both internally and externally, including being recognized as the best performing subsidiary. Karan has an excellent understanding of enterprises as well as insights into the Indian Public Sector, having led the teams for these businesses for Microsoft for 6 years, prior to being appointed as the MD.
Before joining Microsoft, Karan had a successful stint as Head – Public Sector Business for Cisco India. In other roles he handled various responsibilities traversing the organization, including services and business development in the APAC region.
At IBM Singapore, from 2001-2006, as the head for the Networking Business for ASEAN region, Karan was responsible for transforming the Networking business across the seven countries.
Karan is on the Executive Council of NASSCOM, which plays a strategic role through focused initiatives and programs of enabling the Indian IT sector. Karan is also on FICCI’s National Council and AMCHAM’s Executive Board, working closely with industry peers and PSEs on national and regional issues.
Karan is a “People” focused business leader and believes that best lessons are learned from real people, as he has from his mentors.
Karan holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Communications from Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Karan is actively engaged in the startup ecosystem, to learn the new economy, and is also an angel investor with early positions in FindYahan (now Zimmber), NewBytes and TheManCompany.
